DP and pitot tube in one

KDG Instruments' latest insertion flowmeter is claimed to be the first to combine pitot tube flow sensor technology with a differential pressure transmitter, calibrated together as a single, fully integrated unit.
Called ProBar, the device gives 0.5 per cent accuracy across a 10:1 flow turndown. It is said to suffer none of the 'per cent of full scale' accuracy limitations associated with traditional differential pressure flowmeters.
In the past, pitot tube technology was limited to around a 3:1 turndown and applications that had wide variations in flow had to 'stack' DP transmitters, adding significantly to capital cost.
ProBar consists of a diamond-shaped, bi-directional flow sensor tube and a DP transmitter combined with an integral manifold. The patented shape means it presents minimum blockage to the flow. ProBar is Hart-compatible.
