Weir brushes off takeover

Glasgow-based pump manufacturer Weir Pumps has refused a £600million takeover bid from American pump, valve and seal manufacturer Flowserve. Weir chief executive Sir Ron Garrick said that the company wanted to remain independent, and that Flowserve was in any case a poor potential partner.
