Hoechst forges E German deal

Dow and Hoechst are to join forces to build an acrylic acid plant at the Buna Sow Leuna Olefinverbund (BSL), incorporating an 80000t/a crude acrylic acid units, and plants to upgrade this product to glacial acid and convert it into acrylic esters. Hoechst will provide the technology for the plant, and will receive half of its output to feed its acrylic monomer operations. Dow's half will be used to make superabsorbent polymers, acrylic latexes and for other applications. The plant will come on-stream in 1999.
