HSE announces research plans

The Health and Safety Executive has published its second research programme for 1997/98 and said it is keen to extend collaborations with industry.
Mainstream Research Market 1997/98 sets out the HSE's portfolio of projects in engineering, occupational health, hazard management and social sciences. Two industry specific research programmes on offshore and nuclear safety are described in appendices.
Jim McQuaid, HSE's director of science and technology and its chief scientist said: `Our business requires a thorough understanding of science and technology related to health and safety.'
Over the next year HSE plans to spend about £25 million.
