Alstom keeps up the good spirits
15 Jan 2000
World famous distiller J and B has undertaken an expansion to upgrade the original 19 storage tanks to 43 at its Renfrew, Glasgow site. Each new tank has a capacity of 0.25 million litres of cask strength spirit.
Transported by road in tankers, the farm receives spirit from distilleries all around Scotland, then blends it before filling the casks for maturing or further transportation. What was already a difficult job of controlling movement of spirit around the site became even harder with the expansion.
Enter Alstom PLCs and SCADA control. The new 256-valve transfer system routes the spirit from road tanker to storage tank, tank to tank or any other combination.
