Starch stays free at Varn

Manchester-based Varn Products is a leading supplier of chemicals to printers. Its bulk raw materials are a variety of starch products received in bulk bags and small sacks. To handle these poor flowing and dusty materials, Varn has opted for a combination of bag dischargers and flexible spiral conveyors from Spiroflow.
Two Spiroflow T3 loss-in-weight dischargers dispense batch weights from the bulk bags, via flexible screw conveyors, into a mixer in a hazardous area. A buffer hopper stores the batches, and also allows 25kg batches of other ingredients to be added through a sack tip door.
The FIBCs (bulk bags) are `massaged' by pneumatic cylinders at their base to aid discharge. Batch sizes can be from 300 to 1500kg.
