001 - licensed for safe operation
15 Jan 2000
Spirax Sarco's new SV5 safety valve has been awarded the first certificate - numbered 001 - to be issued by the recently formed Safety Assessment Federation (SAFed), the trade association of engineering inspection companies set up after the demise of the Associated Offices Technical Committee (AOTC) in 1995.
One of SAFed's founding members, British Engine Insurance (now Royal SunAlliance Engineering), was responsible for the technical assessment and approval of the SV5. Available with inlet sizes from DN20 to DN150 and either spheroidal graphite iron or cast steel bodies suitable for set pressures up to 40bar, the SV5 is a spring-loaded safety valve, approved to BS 6759 parts 1 and 2 for steam and compressed air. It also features shutoff tightness to API 527 standard.
