New team at the top for Glaxo

Richard Sykes, chief executive and deputy chairman of pharmaceuticals giant Glaxo Wellcome, is to succeed Colin Corness as chairman of the company. Sykes will serve as both chairman and chief executive until next year's annual meeting, when he will pass the chief executive's reins to Sean Lance, currently managing director. Sykes will then remain as executive chairman. In the intervening period, Lance will take the post of chief operating officer. Roger Hurn, currently a non-executive director, will take over from Sykes as deputy chairman.
