Grant proposals submitted to the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council were processed 20 per cent faster in 1996 than previous years, according to EPSRC's annual report. The council awarded 1808 grants in 1995-6. with a total value of £246million. Some 45 per cent of proposals were successful.
