First carpet recycling plant
15 Jan 2000
DSM and AlliedSignal have opened the world's first large-scale plant to recycle carpet fibre. The plant, in Augusta, Georgia, will convert 90000tpa of waste nylon 6 carpet fibre into caprolactam. This will reduce by a fifth the amount of nylon 6 carpet waste in the US, the companies claim; currently, all such material is landfilled. The partners are planning similar plants in Europe, but have not yet finalised locations or capacities for them.
