USF fits gas for glass
15 Jan 2000
Pilkington, the St Helens-based glass manufacturer, produces a range of glass products for the electronics industry using sulphur dioxide in the process.
The gas is mixed with air or nitrogen before being metered into the glass production process.
Winter months caused problems when low temperatures prevented sufficient gas being withdrawn from the cylinders.
To tackle this problem, Pilkington commissioned USF to install a Wallace and Tiernan evaporation unit which draws liquid sulphur dioxide from the cylinders and converts it to gas. USF also supplied a control system for correct gas mixing ratios.
