Grimsby's gain
15 Jan 2000
Acordis, the fibres subsidiary of Akzo Nobel which includes the business recently acquired from Courtaulds, has decided to concentrate production of Tencel at its Grimsby site. The manufacturing plant at Mobile, Alabama, is to be mothballed until demand rises, and some 60 UK-based support jobs will go. The move was forced by a drop in profits, resulting from the economic crises in the Asian market.
