Reshaping plan for AMEC P&E
15 Jan 2000
Responding to `hard times of low oil prices and depressed gas markets', AMEC Process & Energy (APEL) has reorganised its oil, gas and petrochemical activities into two business units - offshore and onshore. The move will allow the company to `focus more clearly on the particular needs of clients,' it says.
The offshore group will provide engineering, fabrication and services from several sites in the UK and Buku, Houston, Jakarta and Stavanger. The group will be headed by Mike Straughen, previously head of offshore services.
The onshore business will concentrate on engineering, construction and services, from UK offices in Surrey, Grangemouth and Darlington, and with international offices in Australia, China, Nigeria, Malaysia and the Middle East. APEL has appointed Steve Lee, currently managing director of Costain Oil, Gas and Process, to head this business.
The two groups will be run independently of each other, giving them the ability to work in the best way to suit their different clients. This might involve using different contracting arrangements, or forming strategic alliances with other companies, AMEC says.
APEL managing director Roddy Grant comments: `By reshaping the business we will be more aligned to the markets we serve. We will take our safety leadership, our ability to enhance value and our learning culture and match them to our clients and customers.'
