Setback for Vietnam refinery
15 Jan 2000
The Vietnamese government has rejected a bid by a US/Taiwanese/Malaysian consortium to build the country's first oil refinery. The government believes that it can finance the $1.3billion project itself, according to the Financial Times. The consortium, which included Petronas, LG International and Conoco, had requested a range of incentives to build the plant, including tax breaks; the government refused.
