Catalytica scoops drugs plant
15 Jan 2000
US specialities firm Catalytica is to acquire Glaxo Wellcome's pharmaceutical production plant in Greenville, North Carolina, for an undisclosed sum. Catalytica's fine chemicals division has agreed to supply GW with `designated pharmaceutical products' for the next five years, netting the American firm some $800million. Excess capacity will be used to satisfy orders from customers including Pfizer, Merck, Pharmacia & Upjohn and Novartis. The deal also secures a share of the profits from Catalytica's production of medicines in the plant's sterile products facility for GW.
