Drying out clinic

A new water treatment system at Boehringer Ingelheim's Bracknell pharmaceuticals plant was the trigger for the company to solve a long-standing corrosion problem. The system was installed in the plant's cold water service tank room, where condensation had been causing problems.
The company called building services contractor Coolheat to solve the problem. The solution turned out to be a simple desiccant dehumidifier, from dehumidification specialist Munters, to reduce the dew point of the air in the room to a level where condensation no longer occurred. The device chosen, an ML 180 unit, uses a desiccant rotor, where the air in the room is passed through a slowly revolving drying wheel with a honeycomb structure lined with silica gel and lithium chloride.
