Spend, spend, spend at ARCO

ARCO Chemical has earmarked $2.8bn for capital spending over the next five years. Some 70 per cent of this will be targeted at `growth projects' in the company's urethanes and performance chemicals businesses, including the building of new propylene oxide/styrene monomer and butanediol facilities at Rotterdam, and the expansion of similar facilities in Channelview, Texas. The remaining 30 per cent is earmarked for environmental, health and safety, and maintenance projects.
