Millennium fountain

ABB's millennium preparations aren't confined to making sure the company's installations are bug-free. The company has also installed the drives that control a 200m2 fountain in the pedestrian pavilion on the approach to the Millennium Dome.
The fountain consists of 63 water jets arranged in two concentric rectangles. `To prevent the wind blowing the water jets out of the fountain and on to the pedestrians, we needed a control device that could automatically adjusts the height of the displays by varying the speed of the motors running the pumps,' explains Jeremy Sutherland, project engineer at Burnell Control Systems, which codesigned the fountain
