Sounding out on silo cleaning
15 Jan 2000
One of the world's leading manufacturers of plaster board, Knauf, has recently installed Sibus-Drayton acoustic cleaners on its silos and blending plant at Immingham, Humberside.
Knauf needed to eliminate build-up of bulk material, which in the past had to be dug out by lowering men into the silos. The acoustic cleaners have now done way with any need for this operation.
Operated by compressed air, the cleaners' horns produce a low frequency, high energy sound wave that creates pressure fluctuations within any bridged material. The horns are mounted at the top of each silo and a periodic `blast' is all that is needed to dislodge stubborn deposits.
