Solvents are cool
15 Jan 2000
Ohio-based Nucon International is celebrating 25 years of operations by offering a unique solvent vapour recovery system (SVRS) based on a reverse Brayton Cycle.
The Braycycle SVRS uses the solvent laden gas from the process as a refrigerant. The gases pass through a turbo expander, which cools them, condensing out the solvent. The solvent free gas and recovered liquid solvents can be recycled to the customer's process, while energy given up by the condensing gas is recovered through a compressor.
According to Nucon's UKagent, EDC, the system needs minimal maintenance, as it has only two `active components.' The best solvents are those with condensation temperatures below -50iC.
