SCADA creams off the savings

This was easier said than done, however. Before opting for the Windows-based Fix SCADA system, the plant's operators had to rely on its existing MMI (man machine interface) software, which simply could not provide a historical log of plant performance.
With two refrigeration compressor rooms at separate locations on the site, the Fix system was configured by systems integrator Boward Computer Services to allow each room's status to be viewed from the other - but with control only possible from the local terminal. Operators use the system's MMI to enter operating parameters and performance data.
As well as the two compressor-room terminals, there are two view-only desktop nodes and two development nodes.
Boon commented: `One of the key benefits of Fix is that it has given us the facility for entering projected electricity prices and displaying real-time running costs. We can now control the refrigeration plant to match the production load in the most efficient way.'
