ICI sells Wilton assets for £300m
15 Jan 2000
ICI has sold the infrastructure of its Wilton site to US energy firm Enron for £300million, as part of its strategy to move away from industrial chemicals. The deal leaves the share of the Wilton cracker as ICI's only remaining asset at the site.
The utilities and services operation supplies steam and power, water and effluent treatment, transport, stores and laboratory services to companies on Teesside. The 560 employees will transfer to Enron. `The agreement is an important step in reshaping ICI and is an important milestone for Teesside,' commented ICI vice-chairman Rob Margetts.
