Foresight to get ministerial coordination group
15 Jan 2000
The Foresight initiative, which identifies areas of research that are needed by industry, is to have its own ministerial group 'to coordinate the programme across Whitehall,' according to the President of the Board of Trade, Margaret Beckett.
'Many government departments believe that a lot more can be done through Foresight in setting their policies and formulating their R&D programmes,' Beckett told a recent conference on innovation.
For example, the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions deputy prime minister John Prescott's 'superministry' already has close links with the construction foresight panel. The new group will help the ministry increase its involvement with the transport, natural resources and environment panels.
