Listen to the temperature
15 Jan 2000
Codel International is introducing PyroSonic II, an acoustic pyrometer, to its range of combustion monitoring instruments.
The ultrasonic temperature sensor is capable of measuring gas temperatures up to 2000 degrees C in aggressive environments.
By projecting a coded sound wave across the hot void and dividing the pulse time by the distance travelled, the velocity of sound is correlated with temperature.
Pyrosonic II measures across eight metres and is equipped with alarm and data valid contacts as well as a 4 - 20mA output. The instrument is useful for secondary air recovery from cement clinker coolers, replacing retractable probes for measuring furnace exit temperatures or anywhere where there are high temperatures and hostile environments, says Codel.
