Doppler radar measures both speed and depth
15 Jan 2000
An open channel flow meter from Flowline called Flo-Dar is a non contact sensor which measures both the speed and depth of flow in a channel or part filled pipe.
The system uses Doppler Radar, similar to a police radar gun, to measure speed of flow which is converted into a flow volume in the control unit. Flow readings are displayed and output as industry standard signals.
Flo-Dar can be installed in any size or shape, channel or pipe from four inches up. No flume or weir is needed and no shutdown is required to install or remove the meter.
Applications for Flo-Dar include raw sewerage flows, final effluent monitoring or flow surveys for network modelling. The meter can measure flows as low as 2mm.
