CRE and PCME to probe coal smuts
15 Jan 2000
A joint initiative between environmental monitoring companies, CRE Group and PCME, has been rewarded with a 265 000 ECU (£186 000) contract to monitor coal combustion particulates.
The project is mainly funded by the European Coal and Steel Community and involves a consortium which includes British Steel, Castle Cement and the UK's Environment Agency.
Key to the research is PCME's TriobeACEX sensor. This measures the charge transferred onto its probe from particles in the air stream. The resulting current is proportional to particle concentration as low as 0.02mg/m3, and for particles of just 0.1 m.
