Benchmarking boost for R&D
15 Jan 2000
The R&D Society has created a new special interest group in the benchmarking of research and development. At an initial meeting, attended by over 50 senior R&D managers from industry and research organisations, the benchmarking of R&D management in industry, universities and other research and technology organisations was identified as a key for ensuring cost-effective innovation.
Although regularly used in product and process development, benchmarking in R&D is still in its infancy. Under the chairmanship of Maurice Dwek, the Benchmarking Group intends forming sectoral interest groups to build links between firms with similar problems and to hold events at which best practice ideas can be exchanged.
