Global water in works
15 Jan 2000
Water treatment companies are restructuring in response to global demand for clean water technology.
Foster Wheeler Environment and ThermoEnergy are forming a new company, specialising in municipal waste water projects. The new company is working on two major projects already. The first is to test the CAR process to convert ammonia in New York City's wastewater into ammonium sulphate for fertiliser. The second is a project (STORS) to convert undigested sludge into a usable oil, similar to No.4 diesel.
After the acquisition of Culligan, USF's subsidiaries Ionpure and Permutit are moving from Hertford to Elga's Wycombe base to form a core of water treatment expertise.
Capital Controls, designer of industrial treatment systems, has acquired the Chesterfield-based Arcite group. Arcite specialises in reverse osmosis. This is the fourth acquisition by Capital Controls this year as part of its global expansion.
