Ibn Zahr complex installs PRAMS
15 Jan 2000
Marex Technology - part of the Yokogawa group of companies - will soon complete the installation of one of the world's largest process reporting and managament systems (PRAMS) at the Ibn Zahr petrochemicals complex in Saudi Arabia. Designed to handle dynamic and hazardous processes in large plants, the PRAMS programme will oversee the operation of two linked plants - one producing methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), the other polyethylene - and their shared laboratory.
The system uses Marex's Promace plant information management system to integrate plant and business information through a decentralised network. This incorporates a variety of control equipment, including Valmet, Yokogawa and Honeywell DCS and Siemens PLCs, and comprises over 30,000 data points.
The system processes information in real time and displays both raw data and mathematically derived values such as averages, means and standard deviations. `This allows very fine, fingertip control of the process leading to greater efficiency, reliability and reduction in waste,' says Marex.
