Danfoss has adopted a platform-based approach for its newest range of drives, allowing it to tailor the functions of the drives to their target markets. The VLT AutomationDrive FC300 series can be adapted to any AC motor and application, the company says.
The modular approach means that the drive is simple to operate, and all the versions of the drive have the same interface. The drives can be rebuilt as operators' needs change. Moreover, the drives are backwards-compatible with existing variable-speed drives.
The approach also helps Danfoss, says Kjeld Kückelhahn, vice-president for product-development. 'Having a common architecture for new products allows us to reuse components, software and hardware,' he says. 'We can be faster to market, with increased product quality, and cheaper per unit.'
