ATEX-certified process calibrator
29 Apr 2003
Fluke has introduced a new loop calibrator developed specifically for use in hazardous environments such as petrochemical plants, oil platforms and refineries and other locations subject to risk of explosion.
The Fluke handheld 707Ex complies with the latest European ATEX (ATmosphères EXplosibles) directive taking effect from 1 July 2003, which applies to all new products for use in these environments sold after that date.
The loop calibrator can be used to calibrate, repair and maintain current loops and can be operated with one hand via a 'Quick-click' push rotary button. It sports features such as span check, manual stepping and automatic ramping.
Pushbutton-selectable 25% voltage steps allow the user to perform linearity checks, while the built-in Span Check function enables fast zero and span confirmation. Both loop current sourcing and simulation are standard, allowing measurement of current while at the same time providing loop power from the internal loop supply. Selectable slow ramp, fast ramp and step functions provide the user with test signals needed for valve slewing and loop functional tests, allowing a single technician to troubleshoot the entire loop.
Measuring 164mm in length and weighing 350g, the 707Ex shows readings in both mA and %. Also provided is a 250W loop resistance for use with HART instrumentation.
