DSM deal for Aker Kvaerner
9 Sep 2003
Aker Kværner has landed a $15million contract to revamp a caprolactam plant in Nanjing.
The contractor won the contract, which covers extended basic engineering, project and construction management, after completing the basic engineering phase on the plant, owned by a joint venture between Dutch chemicals producer DSM and the Nanjing Chemical Industry Company.
The revamp will convert the plant to a new technology, DSM's Stanicarbon HPOplus system, and will increase its capacity from 60,000tpa to 140,000tpa. Environmental and safety aspects of the plant are also in line for improvement. Work will begin on the plant immediately, with the project scheduled for completion in the second half of 2005.
Wim van der Zande, president of Aker Kværner Process, describes the plant as a key project for the company. 'This award continues he long working relationship we have had with DSM on a variety of projects,' he says.
