Plug into all-purpose measurement system
4 Jun 2003
A new modular 'building block' system for level measurement, switching and pressure has been introduced by Vega Controls.
Called plics (for 'plug in concepts'), the system standardises the company's products for these fundamental measurement parameters into one simple, modular approach.
The result is one housing, one programming philosophy, a common interface and one remote software system, PACTware. The system also has universal displays, communication protocols, approvals, fittings and electronic inserts.
The technologies currently available within plics include the Vegaflex 60 series for liquid and solids level measurement; the Vegaswing 60 series liquid level switching device (with SIL 2 safety rating); and the Vegabar 50 and 60 series for pressure and hydrostatic level measurement.
Soon to follow will be Vegapuls process radar, Vegason ultrasonic sensors, Vegavib vibrating switches for solids and powders, and the Vegacap and Vegakon capacitance and conductivity level switches.
All of these instruments benefit from the universal programming and display module, plicsCOM. Plugged into any plics instrument, this is used to display measured values as well as for set-up and adjustment of the plics devices. Whatever the housing (which are all available in a wide choice of materials), plicsCOM just fits.
Copying the set-up of several instruments with one plicsCOM module is made easy by a data copy function, so there is no need for a PC and configuration software.
According to Vega, the plics concept is designed to address its customers' needs for low cost of ownership.
