OLED technologies get married
16 Dec 2002
DuPont Displays, a developer and manufacturer of polymer organic light emitting diode (polymer OLED) displays, has formed a joint development agreement with Universal Display Corporation (UDC) to create a new generation of soluble OLED materials and technology.
The technical approach used by the two will marry phosphorescent OLEDs (PHOLEDs) to ink jet printing technology, resulting in the production of a phosphorescent, printable OLED (P2OLED).
UDC and DuPont have also signed a cross-license agreement, under which DuPont will make an initial payment to UDC and pay UDC a running royalty for products sold that use UDC's background phosphorescent emitter, transparent cathode and ink jet printing technologies.
The collaborators expect to use a third party subcontractor to manufacture materials resulting from the agreement.
DuPont intends to use the results of the alliance to expand its OLED manufacturing capability. UDC, in turn, will have the exclusive right to license the results of the collaboration to third parties.
