BASF takes over automotive refinish business

BASF Coatings is taking over the entire automotive refinishing business of the Australian paint manufacturer Wattyl. At present, BASF Coatings owns 51% of the company while Wattyl holds 49%.
In the future, the company will operate in the Australian market under the name of BASF Coatings. Employing about 50 people, it will be the third largest supplier of automotive refinish products in Australia.
BASF Coatings will continue to be the exclusive distributor of Wattyl's Spartan brand and BASF Coatings' Glasurit brand in Australia.
BASF Coatings AG and Wattyl had merged their Australian automotive refinish businesses on July 1st, 1999, when they founded the joint venture company BASF Wattyl Coatings.
