A tough coating
7 Apr 2000
Thanks to a tough new coating from weighing specialist Thames Side-Maywood, load cell assemblies can now be used in harsh environments. The `autophoretic' coating is very hard and corrosion-resistant, yet ductile enough for it not to crack or flake under heavy loads or stresses. It has been added to the company's T95LA and VC3500 loading assemblies, which are both designed for silo, tank and vessel weighing of loads from 2 to 150 tonnes.
The simple, environmentally friendly, chemical coating process involves a self-precipitating water-based emulsion that gives an extremely uniform coating on all surfaces of the load cell assembly.
All the load cells are sealed to IP67 or IP68 which, when combined with new coating, makes them highly resilient to conditions such as high temperatures, salt spray, and organic solvents such as petrol or diesel fuels.
