ExxonMobil Progresses North Sea Project
13 Jul 2000
Exxon Mobil Corporation has announced that the United Kingdom's Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has given consent to proceed with a $400 million gas development project in the Skene field in the Northern North Sea.
An ExxonMobil subsidiary, Mobil North Sea Limited (MNSL), will operate the field, which is expected to produce up to 180 million cubic feet of gas per day plus 25,000 barrels per day of associated liquids when production begins by early 2002.
ExxonMobil estimates recoverable resources from the Skene field at 95 million oil-equivalent barrels.
The field will be developed using a subsea manifold, which will be tied back by bundled pipeline to MNSL's existing Beryl Alpha platform approximately nine miles away. Gas will be exported from Beryl through the Scottish Area Gas Evacuation (SAGE) pipeline to the Mobil-operated gas processing plant at St. Fergus, Scotland. The oil and condensate will be combined with Beryl crude and exported by tanker to a number of oil terminals onshore.
ExxonMobil has an interest in more than 90 producing fields in the United Kingdom and Norway sectors of the North Sea, which accounted for 22 percent of the company's 1999 net oil and gas volumes. The Skene field partnership comprises Mobil North Sea Limited 38.22 percent, Kerr McGee 33.33 percent, Enterprise Oil plc 15.89 percent, Amerada Hess 9.07 percent and OMV (UK) Ltd 3.49 percent.
