Smarter pleats give finer filters

Cuno's new Betafine XL filter cartridge incorporates the company's APT advanced pleat technology to increase significantly the filter's usable surface area.
The revolutionary pleat configuration (illustrated) produces a staggered pleat in the medium, creating larger than usual spaces between the pleats, particularly at the core. In conventional cartridges the medium near the core becomes squashed and ineffective when tightly packed. Reduction of these blind areas significantly increases the usable surface area and prolongs the service life of the filter.
Betafine XL is made from 100 per cent poly-propylene, thermally bonded to eliminate the use of resin or binder compounds. The filter medium's continuous microfibres are said to deliver optimum performance and consistent filtrate quality. Acids, oils, solvents and other corrosives are routinely handled at temperatures ranging from 21 degrees C to 80 degrees C.
Field and lab tests have shown up to a fourfold increase in service life. The filters are available with nine absolute ratings from 0.2 to 70microns.
