BASF, Bayer, DOW, DuPont and Ticona/Celanese Form e-Marketplace
4 Jul 2000
Omnexus, (www.omnexus.com), a customer-focused, independent global e-marketplace for plastics injection molders, has been formed by BASF, Bayer, Dow, DuPont and Ticona/Celanese to provide a business-to-business site that will focus on delivering products and related services to plastics injection molders worldwide. Omnexus will operate as a separate, independent business from the founding member companies.
Andersen Consulting has been selected by Omnexus to refine the business model and to implement new technologies that will expand the capabilities of the site. The goal of the alliance is to ensure that the site is fully functional when it is launched on October 1.
Omnexus has chosen IBM, along with its strategic allies Ariba and i2 Technologies as its technology provider for the implementation, system service and support to host the independent e-marketplace.
According to Bill Ray, global director eBusiness, Dow Plastics, who represented the founding companies: 'While we search for permanent leadership for the company, naming this interim team allows us to move forward in establishing the site.'
The majority of the interim team is on loan from Andersen Consulting. The team was introduced by Yaarit Silverstone, who will serve as interim chief executive officer of Omnexus. Other officers include: Stan Vlasimsky, chief operating officer; Ursula Hess, vice president of supplier relations; Koichi Kiyohara, vice president of marketing, sales, and customer service; Andy Dvorocsik, vice president of product development; Paul Boulanger, vice president of strategic planning; and, Jan Dewitte, vice president of business support services. Mike Silberman, the site's acting chief information officer, is on loan from IBM, the technology partner for the company.
The North American headquarters of Omnexus will be located in Atlanta, Ga., while European headquarters will be based in Switzerland. Plans call for the site to be operational in the U.S. Oct. 1, Europe Jan.1, 2001 and in Asia and the rest of the world in Spring, 2001.
