From capsule to cartridge
12 Jun 2000
The new MaxiCaps from Sartorius are a variation on the cartridge theme. Pre-sterilised capsule filters have long been popular for lab and development work in the pharmaceuticals and food industries, as they can be fitted and/or changed in minutes. But until now their use on a process scale has been limited because of the need to assemble the cartridges in a stainless steel housing complete with O-rings, valves and the other equipment needed to `plumb' them into the process. MaxiCaps do away with all that assembly work, reducing filter changes to a `plug and play' operation. They have a high quality polypropylene housing and the units are supplied sterile and ready to fit. Every type of Sartorius cartridge filter can be supplied in the new format, which covers virtually every process scale size. There are length options of 10, 20 and 30in, with filtration area from 3 to 18ft2. All outside diameters are 100mm.
