Solvent drying
12 Jun 2000
The range of solvents that can be dehydrated using pervaporation technology has now been extended through the use of silica membranes. Pervaporation and vapour permeation are commonly used to dehyrate solvents such as alcohols and esters. Sulzer Chemtech has acquired the exclusive licence for membrane manufacture and supply. Silica membranes allow higher operating temperatures to be used, so the range of condensation reactions from which water can be extracted has increased.
The membranes are compatible with aprotic compounds such as DMF and NVP.
