Krupp starts up benzene giant
12 Jun 2000
Krupp Uhde's technology is responsible for the world's largest benzene plant, which has started up in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia. With a capacity of 700 000tpa, the plant is operated by Saudi Chevron Petrochemical.
The plant uses Krupp Uhde's Morphylane technology, which produces high-purity benzene from refinery reformate in three steps: prefractionation, selective hydrogenation and extractive distillation. The benzene produced has a purity of 99.997 per cent.
Production at the plant currently stands at some 500,000tpa, says Krupp.
