BASF increases prices for dispersions and raw materials
26 May 2000
Effective June 1, 2000, BASF will be raising its prices in Europe for dispersions and raw materials for paints and coatings. The increases will be between euro 0.06 and euro 0.20 per kilogram depending on the product and range.
Unsatisfactory margins have been given as the reason for these price rises. The high prices of petrochemical feedstocks are a significant underlying factor: These have almost doubled within a year and are still rising. Up until now, BASF has managed to avoid passing these price increases on to its customers.
BASF is one of Europe's leading suppliers of polymer dispersions and raw materials for paints and coatings. The products affected by these price increases are used mostly in the adhesives and paint industries but they also find use in non-woven fabrics and coatings. In addition, these products serve as the basis for state-of-the-art coatings systems.
