HCl leak at EVC sparks alerts

A leak of gaseous hydrogen chloride at EVC's Runcorn plant caused a widespread alert but no casualties, the company says. Some 18tonnes of the gas escaped from a storage vessel at the plant, but fire services acted quickly after the neighbouring ICI plant raised the alarm to stop the gas from spreading over the surrounding area.
