ABB bags power firm
29 Mar 2000
ABB's UK division has sealed a deal to buy East Midlands Electricity Contracting, the power network servicing company, from PowerGen. The price of the company was not disclosed.
The company will be incorporated into ABB's power distribution business, providing maintenance, restoration and repair, inspection and diagnostics, asset planning, refurbishment and total asset management services. It will serve high-voltage transmission grids and distribution networks (see News Analysis p10).
Meanwhile, ABB's dcdrives business has signed an agreement that will see the company's drives sold through Telford-based systems integrator Independent Control Systems. The DCS400 and 500 models will now be available off-the-shelf in the UK, rather than via the German factory.
