Some people thought it was all over
29 Mar 2000
Well, it was such a good party that it simply won't go away. Celebration of the year 2000 continues with the naming of over 1000 products to have been awarded Millennium Product status by the Design Council.
Among the great and the good is a fair sprinkling of process industry products that have earned their recognition as some of the most innovative British products developed in the past five years.
Reinforcing its award-winning status, for example, is AEA Technology's V-tex gas scrubbing system based on power fluidics. This was named Process Product and Overall Product of the Year in the PE-sponsored Manufacturing Industry Achievement Awards last September. Significantly smaller than conventional packed columns, the V-tex is virtually maintenance-free and self-cleaning.
The same attributes can be applied to the runner-up in the MIAAs. This is the GEM steam trap from Gardner Energy Management, which has now also been inducted into the millennial hall of fame.
Another previous year's MIAA winner also gains recognition, Brook Crompton's `W' series high efficiency electric motors.
Other highlights include domnick hunter's Maxigas on-site nitrogen generator and Druck's DPI 515 pressure controller.
