29 Mar 2000
A £300million deal is set to see ABB's nuclear businesses brought into BNFL. As part of its efforts to expand into a global player, BNFL is absorbing the Swedish firm's businesses into its Westinghouse Electric subsidiary.
Headquartered in Connecticut, the ABB businesses have operations in the Midwest, East and South of the US, and in Sweden, France, Germany, Korea and China. Its products include both pressurised water and boiling water reactors.
The acquisition will help BNFL balance its nuclear portfolio between the front and back ends of the nuclear industry, and will allow it to offer the full cycle of products and services for the life of new and existing nuclear plants. It also broadens its geographical spread in the US, Asia and Europe.
