Borstar goes east in China PE production
7 Apr 2000
China Petrochemical (Sinopec) has opted for Borealis' Borstar polyethylene process for a plant in Shanghai, said to be the largest polyolefins complex in China.
The deal is Borstar's first licence in China, which Borealis sees as a major milestone. Polyethylene licensing is dominated by BP Amoco and Union Carbide, whose competing gas-phase processes account for over 75 per cent of all PE made globally.
The Shanghai plant will have a production capacity of 250,000tpa, and is scheduled for start-up in 2002. It will produce a range of PE grades.
