BNFL faces German pull-out

The German government has suspended its contracts to buy reprocessed nuclear fuel from BNFL. This casts doubt over the future of a £300million reprocessed fuel plant and the Thorp plutonium plant. Meanwhile, former Virginia Power and East Midlands Electricity ceo Norman Askew has been appointed chief executive of BNFL, following the resignation of John Taylor in the wake of scandals over falsified records at the Sellefield site (see News Analysis p8 and Comment p11).
