AMEC doubles US presence
7 Nov 2000
AMEC has bought Ogden Environmental and Energy Services, doubling the size of its US environmental and geotechnical engineering presence. The acquisition cost AMEC some $17.5million, but increases the company's turnover by around $80million per year.
The deal gives AMEC access to expertise in environmental risk assessment, hazardous waste treatment, natural resource planning and water resources engineering. The businesses, which will operate under the AMEC name, employ 650 people in 27 offices across the US, particularly in the Eastern states where AMEC is currently under-represented. It brings AMEC's total revenues from earth and environmental services to over $200million/yr.
The new businesses 'provide greater geographical reach, new and complementary skills, and enhance customer service,' comments AMEC chief executive Peter Mason. 'It also serves a vital and burgeoning market in which, we believe, AMEC will continue to grow.' It also boosts AMEC's service-based activities, he adds.
Roger Jinks, president of AMEC's earth and environmental businesses, adds that OEES's 'experienced and established relationships with the government services sector' will also benefit the company.
